First day back for SACS

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Students in Southwest Allen County Schools headed back to class Monday morning. NewsChannel 15 caught up with some going into Homestead High School and Summit Middle School.

Like other districts, SACS has faced budget cuts and anticipates more in the upcoming year. Last year district officials cut over $1 million from the budget without cutting in the classroom. Superintendent Dr. Steve Yager said the district has a similar plan this year to avoid hurtful cuts.

“That plan does talk about some salary reductions, and benefit reductions, some furlough days for some folks,” said Dr. Steve Yager, SACS Superintendent.

Voters in the Southwest Allen County district passed a $3.5 tax referendum in 2009.
