Tigers Fall to Pioneers in Finale of the Menlo Winter Classic

Written by Jade Nowland on December 20, 2010.

A slow start was too much for the Tigers to overcome on day two of the Menlo Winter Classic.  The Black and Orange faced off with Lewis & Clark, and played the Pioneers almost even in the second half, but a 13 point offensive effort by Oxy in the opening stanza was the difference in a 66-50 loss.

The Tigers defense once again played well, holding the Pioneers to just 25 points in the opening half, but that superior effort could not make up for their struggles on the other end of the floor.  The Black and Orange connected on just four field goal attempts, with two coming from behind the arc, as they shot just 17.4% heading into intermission.

Oxy came out of halftime and found their rhythm from the field, shooting 44.4% from the field, but the Pioneers stepped up their game connecting on 55.6% of their second half attempts.

Lewis & Clark (5-4) had three players finish in double digits, led by Megan Spence with 22.

Michelle Lo was the bright spot for the Tigers offense with a team high 19 points.

Stephanie Babij led the Oxy defense with a team high eight rebounds and two steals.

The Tigers (3-5) now have almost two weeks off to prepare for their next opponent as they will return to Rush gymnasium, where they are 3-1 on the season, to face Southern Methodist on Thursday, December 30th.  Tipoff is scheduled for 4 PM in conjunction with the opening day of the Occidental / Chapman Classic.
