Finishing with a time of 7:39.39 for 2000 meters, Barrington senior Anders Weiss placed third to win the bronze medal in the men’s youth single sculls at the USRowing’s Youth National Championships, held Sunday on Lake Melton in Oak Ridge, Tenn.
Breck Wagner, a junior at Wheeler School, and Moses Brown sophomore Chase Buchholz combined to finish third in the men’s youth double sculls, clocking a time of 7:10.62, they finished just 6.4 seconds behind the winning GMS Crew (7:04.22) and 2.5 seconds behind the silver medal crew from Saugatuck (7:08.09).
Approximately 30 minutes after this race, Wagner and Buchholz joined Weiss and Eric Esposito, also of Wheeler School, to race in the men’s youth quadruple sculls grand final, where they placed fourth in 6:29.42 — 3 seconds away from another medal.
The Rhode Islanders, who row as members of the Narragansett Boat Club under coach Peter Wilhelm, competed against scullers from across the United States, and in each event had to compete in at least two races to qualify for the grand final.
