Last 3 Abilene ISD projects using ’04 bond money are in motion

Joe Humphrey, construction coordinator for the Abilene Independent School District, said the last three projects using 2004 bond money are fully in motion in the district.

The final project will be the construction of the new Myra P. Martinez Elementary School, which will begin in a couple of weeks.

The construction bid on the project was awarded Monday night.

Crews are working on projects at Bowie Elementary School and Jefferson Middle School.

Humphrey said a new one-third of a school is being built at Bowie.

At some point, the district will build the other two-thirds of the new Bowie school and tear down the old building.

Work crews are at Jefferson installing new windows, heating and cooling systems, ceilings and lights.

The cost of the Jefferson construction project is $1.4 million, and Bowie is $2 million.
