The McMurry University senior class’ gift to the school — a ga-ga pit — was presented to the school in the recreation area behind Hunt Residence Hall on Friday.
Ga-ga (or ga-ga ball) is a form of dodgeball. It can involve a large group of people playing individually, opposing teams or one-on-one matches.
“It is Israeli dodgeball, and ga-ga stands for ‘hit, hit’,” according to Jessica Collins-Heath, a member of the McMurry student government. “The senior class chose this gift because the freshman class and all the students that attended Camp Butman during Vision Quest (the school’s four-day orientation program) were able to play ga-ga ball. Everyone that had this opportunity really enjoyed the sport and showed desire to have one on campus.”

Cleaning out the reporter’s notebook
On Friday morning, I had chats with Trent school board trustee Lee Castleberry and Superintendent Greg Priddy about a story in the Friday edition of the Reporter-News that reported the Texas Education Agency had conducted an audit of the district’s books in December after receiving a complaint.
In that story, I said that Priddy and Castleberry knew nothing about the investigation or the audit. That was incorrect. They simply declined to comment about the incident.
After my Friday morning conversations with the pair, I now know they have been in the know about what is happening with the audit since the beginning.
They aren’t at liberty, however, to discuss the incident until the TEA releases its report. Both officials said that once the TEA report is made public, they will be free to discuss the audit.
I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.
